Glympse Bio

Glympse Bio, a biotechnology company developing revolutionary technology to diagnose and monitor disease, needed a new headquarters.  After completing test fits, TRIA provided architectural and engineering services for one floor consisting of 60% laboratory and 40% office and amenity spaces.

During visioning, it was determined that Glympse Bio employees were looking for collaborative spaces. An efficient, economical design was achieved by creating multi-functional spaces, such as a flexible cafe that can double as a meeting space for large or small groups. Additional features include open benching, writing surfaces, and glass partitions. The outcome is a modern and inspiring workspace for Glympse Bio employees to call home.

Platelet Biogenesis

Platelet Bio, a preclinical-stage biotechnology company pioneering an entirely new platform of allogeneic cell therapies based on platelet biology, asked TRIA to create a culture-centric and functional design for its new lab and office space on one floor.

The existing building’s floor-to-ceiling windows provide ample sunlight with commanding views of the neighborhood. Periodic glass walls between the lab and office spaces provide a collective visual connection, allowing for transparency amongst coworkers and potential clients. An exceptional design feature is the automated glass wall between the boardroom and adjacent café, which can disappear above the ceiling to create one large meeting space for all-hands gatherings. This element supports wider firm cohesion and is a notable addition to the office, which speaks to Platelet’s unique culture and identity. TRIA extended this detailed approach to the laboratories, where great care was taken to enhance lab safety. Personal protective equipment, eye wash and safety showers are clearly visible; biosafety cabinets, refrigerators, fume hoods and autoclaves are located for safety and energy efficiency. Lastly, hands-free entries to tissue culture rooms open powered doors, reducing contamination.

Biogen 6-6

Biogen, a biotech company, discovers, develops, and delivers innovative therapies worldwide for people living with serious neurological and neurodegenerative diseases. The global organization, headquartered in Cambridge, MA is also home to its research operations.

The renovation of Building 6, Floor 6, a mixed lab and office space accommodates multiple groups within Biogen’s Research & Development Organization. The floor was converted to support biologics laboratories, with a shared lab services space and open office, including collaboration and huddle spaces, copy centers, mail rooms, and approximately 10,000 square feet of lab area. The wet lab space consists of open lab, lab support, tissue culture, and cold storage. TRIA designed the space to maintain a strong visual connection between lab and office, both in design and transparency, allowing the staff to remain connected regardless of the day’s requirements.

Confidential Client

Originally spread out over multiple sites in Lexington, TRIA worked to consolidate the company to 4 floors at 125 Binney Street, Cambridge, located in the biotech capital of the world. TRIA worked in phases to plan and construct the 175,000 SF state of the art lab and office space, including executive offices, a medium sized vivarium, and a conference center large enough to host the entire company campus. The consolidation and integration of the space continued by pursuing transparency between lab and office, allowing employees to move seamlessly between all elements of their job.

Eisai

TRIA designed a state-of-the-art lab facility center for Genetics Guided Dementia Discovery (G2D2) for the U.S. pharmaceutical subsidiary of Tokyo-based Eisai Co., Ltd. The space features an open office plan and adjacent open laboratory for Eisai’s neuroscience R&D team of 100+ employees. Centered around a central collaboration space dubbed “The Brain”, the open labs are designed to allow multi-disciplinary scientists to work together in a single, accessible and shared lab space. Collaboration continues in neighborhoods created throughout the office, all of which offer bench seating, sit-to-stand desks, and personal lockers.

Oncorus, Inc.

At its founding, Oncorus took a 12,300 SF space for its headquarters in Cambridge, MA.

Our design team took a holistic approach to the office and lab design of Oncorus’ headquarters to create an efficient and flexible workspace that supports the company’s scientific research mission. Work stations along the window line allow natural light to penetrate deep into the space, and conference rooms on the interior feature glass walls to provide transparency. A conference room offers a wall-sized window to the lab, providing a view to the exciting discoveries taking place.

The design developed was one of vibrancy and heavy branding – a place where this biotech startup could put down roots.
