Job Summary
The Senior Interior Designer provides design leadership, oversight, and support for the overall development and implementation of interior design projects. The focus of the project types is luxury multifamily, hotel/hospitality, corporate office, tenant fit out, lobbies/amenities, and retail. This role reports to a Principal. This most senior design role is responsible for the creative narrative, look/ feel, and storytelling behind the project. This candidate will lead the design effort; decide finishes, FF+E, and lighting; and develop, execute, and coordinate large scale, complex projects from concept through construction. In addition, this role mentors and oversees junior design staff. Other responsibilities include disseminating tasks, creating material/mood boards, and presenting concepts to clients and the Principal-in-Charge.
Candidate should be familiar and/or involved in local groups and committees like IIDA, NCIDQ, NAIOP etc.
Essential Responsibilities
- Manage the interior design project team, including consultants, to ensure timely completion and execution of client requested changes to scope, without delays and within budget; advise principal and project manager of any changes of scope
- Ability to design, detail, coordinate, provide basic technical reviews, and co-coordinate with consultants on all phases of design and construction
- Have working knowledge of detailing finishes and materials, coordinating with vendors, furniture specifications, and sourcing
- Determine constructability of design alternatives and determine those alternatives most appropriate to project constraints
- Coordinate and lead project execution and consultant coordination; verify completeness of drawing sets; bring working knowledge of building codes; and participate in value engineering efforts
- Determine the accuracy, completeness, and clarity of all drawings and documents
- Provide feedback during the consultant selection process and ensure alignment with architectural design consistent with project goals
- Conducts oversight of design staff scheduling
- Monitor design progress ahead of technical design to solidify technical design goals
- Review client program and initial project goals to generate planning and design concepts
- Responsible for client communications throughout all phases of project
- Review proposals and fees and advise on agreements
- Support a positive environment by ensuring proper team structure that aligns with the appropriate skills needed
Required Qualifications
Education
- Professional degree in Interior Design or equiv.
- NCDIQ preferred
Training Requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates)
- 10+ years relevant experience
- Experience with and knowledge of construction drawings
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD/Revit
- Proficient in programs including Revit, Sketch Up or 3D computer rendering, Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office Suite, and Newforma; preference for knowledge of Deltek Vantagepoint and Bluebeam REVU
- Comfortable with hand sketches
- LEED AP & specialty encouraged
