To confirm that a more open, collaborative office space would be beneficial to this client, a smaller space was built-out to meet the new criteria before the design team moved on to the client’s larger 180,000 SF project located at 300 Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge. Takeda challenged the design team to introduce the company to a true benching system, which would foster a new dynamic way of working. In addition to benching, the design featured other new design strategies, including transparency, open ceilings, exposed concrete floors, and high-top collaboration zones. In the end, both the client and the design team learned much from the process, and the open workspace concept greatly benefited the entire team.
