Position Summary
As part of the project team, Designer 3 will be responsible for assisting project team members in all phases of design including programming and planning, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration. This position collaborates closely with the senior project team members to provide production and technical support of documentation, development of presentations, and project coordination and is expected to mentor and provide guidance to junior designers. Designer 3 corresponds regularly with consultants and vendors to continue to build those relationships and will participate in both in-person and virtual client presentations. Designers must apply themselves to all phases and types of work the firm requires to deliver projects and understand all the sub-disciplines and skills within the firm (workplace design, lab planning, etc.).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Organize and lead document production with industry-standard document delivery software, REVIT, Bluebeam, MS Office
- Work with project team members to produce design documents and presentation materials for client review
- Participate in the development and implementation of architectural designs for multiple projects
- In collaboration with senior project team members, generate design presentations and presentation drawings
- Generate 3D renderings
- In collaboration with senior project team members, participate in the selection of FF&E, lighting, and other interior, exterior, and architectural products
- Take part in site and lab equipment surveys and document survey findings in REVIT
- Lead production effort to generate Room Cards and in collaboration with senior project team members, participate in the lab design and planning process
- On certain projects, fulfill the Job Captain role and proactively organize the project team, develop work plans, and provide direction and mentorship to the entire production team
- Work with the Project Designer/ Architect to generate a team task list based on project deliverables (have production responsibilities in addition to oversight of junior designers)
- Perform on-site existing conditions surveys
- Generate Code summary and review with Project Architect; provide clients with recommendations on building code requirements, zoning, and material specifications; review local rules and regulations to ensure the construction project falls within all constraints
- Assist with consultant team coordination working with consultant to coordinate scope, and execute Project Designer/Architect direction
- Attend and record meeting notes and follow up with deliverables from meetings
- Apply knowledge of building technology to the overall approach and detailing for interior and ground-up projects
- Develop technical details of building envelope systems, including masonry and stone veneer, premanufactured metal wall panel systems, premanufactured window systems, curtain wall assemblies, and roof assemblies
- Assist with building surveys, documentation, and consultant coordination to create reports of existing conditions for building owners and for review with the Project Architect; work with Project Designer/Architect to review and complete design documents and presentation materials for the client review
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of architectural project procedures and standards and mentor the project team to ensure timely and effective completion of projects; keep up to date on the latest architectural and interior products
- Review deliverables for document accuracy
- Assist in the review of submittals; participate in the overall Construction Administration process
- Understand the need to be efficient and respect project cost limitations, schedules, and hourly budgets for the completion of work

Qualifications

Education
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university or professional degree in architecture or interior design with 6-8 years of experience.
language ability
Read, analyze, and interpret professional, design & construction documents. Write reports and business and consultant correspondences. Effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, consultants, and team members.
mathematical ability
Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and commissions. Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
