Position Summary

As part of the project team, Designer 1 is responsible for assisting project team members in all phases of design including programming and planning, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration. This position assists the project team in the production of documents, development of presentations, and project coordination. Designer 1 must apply themselves to all types of work the firm requires to deliver projects and understand all the sub-disciplines and skills within the firm (workplace design, lab planning, etc.).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in creating and developing graphic presentations in collaboration with project design and marketing teams.
  • Assist document production with industry-standard document delivery software, REVIT, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, MS Office.
  • Work with project team members to produce design documents for client review.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of architectural designs for multiple projects.
  • Assist in creating design presentations and generating presentation drawings.
  • Coordinate with vendors to learn about new product launches and to procure material samples.
  • Assist in the selection of FF&E, lighting, and other interior and exterior and architectural products.
  • Take part in site and lab equipment surveys and document survey findings in Revit.
  • Assist in the production of programming, and planning documentation such as room cards, adjacency diagrams, and lab design.
  • Produce construction in Revit under the direction of Project Designer/Project Architect.
  • Incorporate senior team member redlines accurately in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to project schedule and deadlines.
  • Attend internal and external project/consultant meetings and take detailed notes.
  • Research and keep up to date on the trends and innovative interior and architectural products.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining project library.
  • Help to create 3D renderings for the project.
  • Assist with existing conditions surveys.

Bachelor’s degree from four-year college/university or professional degree in architecture or interior design, with 1 to 3 years of experience.

language ability

Write simple correspondence and memos. Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to consultants, clients and other employees.

mathematical ability

Calculate figures and amounts such as interest, commissions, proportions, discounts, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
